First Orthodontic Evaluation By Age 7

The American Association of Orthodontists (AAO) recommends that all seven year-olds have their first orthodontic check-up. While most kids don’t need braces at this age, it is a great opportunity to evaluate the teeth that are in place and assess the developing bite. We recommend an annual evaluation after this point to monitor growth and development and ensure appropriate timing for the loss of baby teeth and the eruption of the permanent teeth.

First Visit: What to Expect

At your first visit, you’ll be greeted by the friendly faces of our team. You’ll get to meet our treatment coordinator and doctors, Dr. Menjivar and Dr. Drew. They will evaluate orthodontic issues such as bite classification, overbite, overjet, and crowding among other findings. The doctor will review these orthodontic findings with you and your family as they relate to an ideal model of teeth, discussing functional and cosmetic issues of the bite and tooth alignment.

If it's determined that you're not ready for orthodontic treatment, a recall visit will be established to continue monitoring growth and development. Valuable information can be gleaned from this review, and any questions you have as they pertain to orthodontics will be answered.

If you are indeed a good candidate for orthodontic treatment, digital photographs will be taken so that the doctors can create a personalized treatment plan that's ready when you are. The doctor will present recommendations for treatment and give an estimate of treatment duration. A team member will review financials including payment option plans, insurance benefits and discounts such as paid-in-full discount and family discount.
