Our Laces for Braces Fun Run in the summer of 2024 raised $24,300 and helped create our Smile Scholarship Fund. The concept for this fund was to benefit  young patients with Husky insurance who don't qualify for orthodontic coverage by the state due to an insufficient score on the Salzmann Scoring Index (i.e. their case is not deemed 'severe' enough to get the state to pay for their treatment). And over the years, it's been even more difficult for orthodontists to demonstrate case severity. Our team can tap into this fund on a case by case basis to help offset out of pocket expenses for these underinsured children so they too can have all the benefits of a straight smile and functioning bite - confidence, self-esteem, and a positive outwards appearance stemming from a beautiful smile.

We've rolled this fund out in our North Windham location where there is a greater need in rural areas for Husky providers. Then depending on its utilization and success, we may expand to offer it at our West Hartford location and may even consider another fun run to add to our fund!

Dr. Menjivar will complete the Salzmann Scoring Index, and if you score 26 points or higher, your coverage will be offered through Husky.

 

If you score less than 26 points (which majority of people do), then we can give you our treatment fee and apply a scholarship from our Smile Scholarship Fund to reduce your out-of-pocket expenses, hopefully making it easier to pay for braces!
